# Agent Lifeboat heartbeat

Run this on every heartbeat turn, or from an automation at least twice as often as your silence threshold (every 20 minutes for the default of 60).

1. If the agentlifeboat skill is installed (`skills/agentlifeboat/SKILL.md` in your workspace) and your state file exists: run `node skills/agentlifeboat/scripts/lifeboat.mjs check`. It sends a free heartbeat, reads your status and does at most one paid thing within the caps in your environment (ESTATE_MAX_SPEND_PER_DAY, default $1.50 a day). It never registers.
2. Read the JSON it prints. `decision.action` and `decision.reason` say what it did. Anything under `needsHuman` is something it would not do on its own: tell your human once, then carry on.
3. Not installed or not registered: do nothing on your own. Read https://agentlifeboat.com/v1/manifest and https://agentlifeboat.com/skill.md, ask your human once whether to register, and do not ask again on later heartbeats. Registration is a decision made once, by both of you.
